Vodafone Music Awards.

I don't like prize givings. And that's what the VMAs are, glorified prize givings. Who wants to sit down for three hours watching a big-headed Dai Henwood make pathetic, juvenile jokes while handing out crappy little trophies to bands we glorify and swoon over, forgetting the rest of the world have no idea who they are, and even if they did they wouldn't give a flying fuck.

We're rather self-absorbed as a country. A huge disastor overseas, and all we care about are the amount of victims with kiwi connections. We think that we are the most peaceful, beautiful, morally-correct country in the world, and everyone who disagrees just doesn't understand.
We spend our days sitting in a pity-pool with our backs to the rest of the world, playing with our toy sheep and Frodo action figure while muttering about how they have no idea how incredibly awesome we really are. And making sure to speak loudly whenever boasting to ourselves, quickly glancing over our shoulders to see who may have been listening. Not that we need them.

I do love NZ though, and maybe we wouldn't be so self indulged if the bigger countries bothered to recognise the awesomeness that creeps around every corner of our slummy, casual-humoured Aotearoa.
So, here I find myself with a predicament. By some off chance, I won tickets to the VMAs, which just so happen to be tonight. Do I go? I don't think I shall enjoy myself, especially as none of my favourite NZ bands are performing and as I said before, I HATE prize givings.
But it is the "Biggest thing in NZ music this year" and who knows, there may be some free stuff?

Should I stay, or should I go?
